The R/V Wecoma

R/V Wecoma

The R/V Wecoma, owned by the National Science Foundation, was launched in 1975. The ship’s home port is Newport, Oregon.  The Wecoma can be operated anywhere in the world except the polar regions.  The ship has the resources to stay at sea for about 30 days at a time.  The vessel is 185 feet long with a beam of 33 feet.

A total of 13 crew members is necessary to run the vessel.  There is space for 18 scientists on board.  The ship has more than 1,000 square feet of laboratory space, a large working deck, and a wide variety of instruments for making measurements at sea.

The Wecoma is part of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System fleet. The ship is used by scientists from throughout the world.
