1. Have students work individually first to make a list of features they like and dislike in a house.

2. Have students pair up to complete the role-play described in the exercise.

3. After the students are finished with the activity, talk about the process. Who had the easier job: the family member who likes the house, or the family member who dislikes the house?

4. Find some ads with photographs in housing shoppers’ guides. Perform a similar role-play using these ads, with one student playing the role of
the seller and one the role of a possible buyer.

Talk about it printer

Make a list of the home features you like and dislike. (See your wish list on this page.) Then find a partner. One of you should play the role of a family member who has fallen in love with the house. The other should play the role of a family member who either doesn’t like the house or isn’t sure. The partner who likes the house should try to convince the other family member to agree to purchase the house.

Features you like:

1. large bedrooms

2. large backyard

3. close to neighborhood school

 

Features you dislike:

1. not close to public transportation

2. limited closet space

3. no basement
