 Behind every statewide election in California are tens of thousands of people who serve as poll workers to ensure smooth and proper operation at the polling places.
Consider serving as a poll worker for an upcoming election. You'll play a vital role in making democracy work – and you'll see and greet your neighbors!
Depending on your county and assignment, pay can range from $70.00 to $140.00 for the day. You will usually be assigned to a polling place in your neighborhood and will receive the training you need.
Among your duties will be signing in voters, handing them their ballots and verifying lists of who has cast their vote. Check with your county elections office for more information about the pay rate and whether you will need to attend a training class before election day.
Many counties have a student poll worker program for high school seniors who have good academic standing, are at least 16 years old and have permission of their guardian. Students may be able to get community service credits. Check with your county elections office for more information.
