Comprehension check
Ask learners to do the comprehension exercise on this page. Discuss the responses with the whole class.

Note: If you are in an area where condominiums and cooperatives are popular, you will want to have your class read and discuss the definitions. If there are no condominiums or cooperatives in your area, you may choose to omit this information.

Vocabulary
Have the class read and practice the vocabulary words listed in the Teacher’s Manual. Then have them read the sentences in the vocabulary activity on this page and choose the word that has the same meaning as the word in italics.

Assign some of the other words to pairs or small groups and ask them to generate sentences like the ones on this page.

Talk about it!
Assign learners to groups and ask them to discuss how they would decide to buy a home and the factors that would influence that decision. Have them rank their preferences. Ask groups to report to the class.

Additional activity
Assign learners to groups and ask them to write and design a newspaper advertisement for a house or apartment. Some groups can take the seller’s view and write a “for sale” ad. Others can be potential buyers and write a want ad. This activity will prepare learners for the next lesson.
