Writing
Before assigning the writing task, point out the
different features in a letter, such as the greeting and the closing (e.g., Sincerely). Remind the learners to include these features in their letters. If desired, show the class a sample letter.

Before learners begin to write, review the advantages and disadvantages of homeownership. Refer to the “Talk about it!” exercise on page 3.

Put key vocabulary on the board or a flipchart to help less proficient learners with spelling.

Suggest a format for the letter. After the greeting and some introductory sentences, learners should mention they heard Rosa and Manuel are thinking about buying a home. In the first paragraph, learners can discuss the advantages. In a second paragraph, they can point out some disadvantages. In a third paragraph, the learners can make a recommendation
to the Castillos.

If you wish, have learners read their letters aloud after completion.
