Purpose

To introduce the topic of homeownership.

Warm-up

1. Ask learners to look at the picture.

2. Use the questions to introduce the topic of homeownership. Have learners answer the first three questions about the picture. Next, find out what experiences your class has had with housing in both the United States and their native countries.

lrents an apartment, house, townhouse, or
condominium.

Post the results of your class survey on the board. Ask the learners where they would like to live in 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years. Would they prefer to rent or own? Ask how they plan to reach that goal and list their ideas on the board.
