Purpose
To learn some basic information about mortgages.

Warm-up
1. Ask learners to look at the picture on this page.
Use the questions to introduce the topic of
mortgages. Have learners answer the questions about the picture.

2. Use a word map with the word mortgage in the center. Ask learners what they know about mortgages and write their responses on the map. Learners who have already purchased homes may know some of the vocabulary and information in this unit. Call on these learners to share their experiences with their classmates.

Note: The teacher does not have to be a mortgage expert. If you cannot answer learners’ questions, you can demonstrate how they might find the answers.

A local mortgage lender should also be able to supply information to your class.
