Elmo, of Sesame Street and Tickle
Me Elmo fame, made a visit to each classroom at Christmas,
answering questions, posing for pictures and passing out
hugs, of course. Also making the rounds, Snowden the snowman
answered questions and gave surprisingly warm hugs.Thunder,
the Golden State Warrior team's mascot, made a dramatic and
acrobatic appearance to the children. He talked about safety
and then autographed photos.

The Dolphins investigated the mysteries of insects,
reptiles,
mammals and sea life. Making use of their new knowledge,
they went to Tilden Park in search of some of the creatures
they had studied. Exploring career options, the Teddy Bears
focused on workers in the community. Parents, some in
uniform, shared their work experience, explaining the roles
they perform on the job. Later, the children 'tried on'
different
roles by turning the classroom into a doctor's office, a
store, a post office and a McDonald's, complete with cash
registers! MOCHA, the Museum of Children's Art, led the
Kindergarteners in the creation of multimedia
masterpieces. The Dinosaurs saw Peter Rabbit performed at the
Calvin Simmons Theater and then proudly re-enacted it for
their classmates. The Hummingbirds attended to health issues,
focusing on the importance of eating, exercising and
resting.

With summer in full swing the
Busy Bees picnicked and took a nature walk, collecting
leaves, pebbles and other small objects, which they combined
to make artistic creations. The Teddy Bears, clad in
swimsuits,
sunscreen, glasses and hats, spent a "pretend" day at the
beach.Visiting the library, the Advanced Nursery acted out
stories that were read to them while the Kindergarten class
enjoyed the music of Gary Lapow
and stories told by Yolanda Rhodes. Our Family Celebration,
complete with face painting, a cakewalk and jewelry making,
was wonderful. A special good-bye was given to children and
families leaving the Day Home and a welcome was extended the
many new members of the Day Home family.
