Educational Service District 101, operator of the STEP/Star distance learning network, provides adult literacy and alternative education courses to learners around the United States. Audiences receive the interactive, televised programs via satellite or their local cable systems. The adult offerings are made possible through a competitive Star Schools grant awarded to ESD 101 through the Office of Educational Research and Improvement-U.S. Department of Education. ESD 101 received the grant on behalf of the Pacific Star Schools Partnership, a multi-state consortium of educational providers. Today, working in concert with the Northwest Literacy Resource Center, STEP/Star offers three interactive broadcast courses for adult literacy/alternative education audiences: 1) GED Prepration, 2) Career Transitions, and 3) ESL/Citizenship. Additional programs will be offered in the fall of 1997. |
