November 1, 1996

Dear Adult Education and Literacy Providers:

As you know, the focus of this year's training available through the Staff Development Institute is 'Change Agent Training'. That means the training is tailored toward teachers, coordinators and/or administrators who will return to their agency and share what they have learned in whatever manner best suits their agency. The reason for this focus is the concern that Block Grants may bring the end of staff development monies.

At the end of this letter is a survey which list the Change Agent Trainings that are currently available. Please take a few minutes to review the survey and check the trainings to which your agency would send a representative during Spring semester. Comment about your needs for the future, but please only check those your agency would support from February through May 1997.

Please send your responses by December 15, 1996. The following week the Regional Managers of all eight State Literacy Regional Centers will meet in Sacramento to select topics and dates. Feel free to call or email me with questions or concerns.

Through the funding provided by the State Collaborative Literacy Council, each Regional Center is able to provide a limited amount of teacher workshops this year. Please contact me with requests from your teachers.

Thank you for your time and effort in professionalizing the staff members of all our programs.

Sincerely,

Alice Hurley
Regional Manager
Sweetwater State Literacy Regional Center
