Where does a volcano get its power?

When a volcano erupts, people see an amazing sight. Why does a volcano erupt? Where does a volcano get that power?

Investigate the Earth. Find out what is below the thin top crust on which we live.

  1. Find information about the Earth and fill out the table.
  2. Now, draw a model of the Earth as if you could see all the way into the core.
  3. Use the lesson "The Earth’s Anatomy" at this website.

Also look at "The Earth’s Layers"

  4. Find out about plate tectonics. Read these "Plate Tectonics" lessons and try the moving models. Then, take the quiz at the end.
