Highly toxic pollutants, created in the middle latitudes
such as North America, Africa, Europe, and Asia, go airborne and make
their way to the polar regions. There they settle into the ice and
get released into the oceans. What happens next? How do these persistent
organic pollutants (POPs) affect the food chain?
Join Susan Cowles as she journeys to Antarctica to
study POPs as part of a program called Teachers Experiencing Antarctica
and the Arctic. You can learn along with Susan as she travels from
Chile to the Antarctic Peninsula, where she will spend a month at
Palmer Station.
