Characteristics Things to do
At about 8 months of age, many babies become afraid of new faces. This is called “stranger anxiety.” Do not force your baby to go to new people (even grandma!) Let her slowly get used to them. Story Tapes: Ask distant family members to read a favorite story into a tape player. This is a way for baby to get to know people even if they are far away.
Babies do not know how to share. They may grab toys from other children. They don't understand about feelings yet. Set your child in front of you. Hand her a toy and say, “Here you are.” Then reach out your open hand, smile and say, “Please give it to me.” If she doesn't give it to you, take it gently. Say “Thank you!” See if you can get your baby to repeat this.
