Characteristics Things to do
Toddlers are self-centered. They may treat other children like things or toys. They may poke eyes or pull hair. They don’t know that these things hurt. When toddlers don’t have words to get what they want, they get frustrated. They may hurt each other. Stop children from hurting each other. Say, “Use your words. I won’t let you hurt each other.” Toddlers don’t know how to share. Show your toddler how to say hello to other children. Dolls, puppets, and stuffed animals help toddlers learn social skills. Talk about sharing. “I bought some crackers to share.” Show your child how to share: “I have an apple. I want to share it with you.”
