Community Organizations

About ten non-profit community organizations are registered in the CNMI. Many of these are church and ethnic heritage organizations that provide social activities for their members. At present there is no literacy consortium or voluntary organization in the CNMI addressing the issue of literacy. The public library got a grant and for a while had been doing tutorial at the library itself. Lately, there has been a group of teachers and civic minded community people who have been talking about outreach literacy activities in the villages. The NMC has been working with these efforts informally.
