I came to the United States in 1984 with dreams of getting a job to help my mother and brothers and sisters that stayed in Mexico when I came here. I didn't know any English, nothing. Then I found a job at a
hospital called Huntington Beach Convalescent Hospital as a tray person in the kitchen. I worked there two years. Then I paired up with someone and I ended up pregnant.
I had twin boys which I named Eric and Omar. I stayed at home for four years taking care of my children until they started to go to school at the Orange County Head Start in Huntington Beach.
I entered an adult English class. That program helped me a lot to understand my children better, talk to them and to help them with their homework better. It also helped me with their doctors, at the stores, and in other things, like maybe it will help me in the future to find a job. I would like to go back to that program in September when my children go back to school.
I am happy because it has helped me a bit. I am not the same because before I didn't know any English. I give thanks to the teacher Yvonne who had patience with me and helped me with everything I didn't understand. Then bit by bit I understood enough to talk it, and I like it a lot because it's necessary in this country.
I thank the teacher Yvonne with all my heart. I recommend it to every person to study English when they hear about this
program at schools that have those programs. I want them to go and not waste time. If they do it, it will go great in their lives and with their children's lives. They can help their
children with their homework and understand them. This is how I do it. I want them to go to the English classes.
