This project focused on a tiered dissemination strategy to provide consumers and retailers with materials for preventing lead contamination from foods and candy.
The Project Team worked in Monterey County with English as a Second Language, Adult Education, Community Based Adult Literacy, and Cooperative Extension Family Nutrition Education programs as well as local government, food retailers and to local ‘envios’ retailer businesses.
The goals were to:
- Disseminate Public Health Trust developed lead education materials to adult education schools with ESL programs that provide education to low literacy and low-income adult learners in Monterey County.
- Develop and disseminate a lead-focused fotonovela called ‘Get the Lead Out!’ (Spanish and English versions )
- Disseminate Public Health Trust developed materials and fotonovelas to MC food retailers and to local ‘envios’ retailer businesses.
- Develop a set of training materials that accompany the Healthy Connections Study Circle.
- Disseminate materials statewide to health providers, retailers and educators long after the grant period.
- Develop a set of training materials that accompany the Healthy Connections Study Circle.
