In December
of 1999, a Hawaii delegation attended the Literacy Information aNd
Communication System (LINCS) Conference sponsored by the National
Institute for Literacy (NIFL), and was inspired by their greater
understanding of literacy resources made available on-line across
the country. Members of this delegation were convinced that there
is a need for Hawaii to also have its literacy services and resources
available on-line.
Acting on
this conviction, we have created a statewide literacy web site
to enable the public to access this information resource. Clicking
on the Programs and Activities
button will connect you to a directory listing of literacy services
and resources. Clicking on an island icon on that page will provide
you information of services and resources by island locations.
Mr. Paul Heavenridge,
Director of the Western/Pacific Literacy Network, who is affiliated
with the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) will serve in
managing this web site. The local area manager for the web site
is Ms. Annette Young-Ogata. Should you have any questions please
contact her at (808) 594-0170 or via
email.
We are hoping
that this literacy web site and directory will be a comprehensive
listing of all literacy providers and be readily available to
anyone who wish to benefit from literacy services or resources.
If you provide
literacy service or resource and wish to be included in the
directory please click here to complete
a directory form to
submit information about your organization.
