How to Buy a Home in the United States, is one of the tools
the Fannie Mae Foundation has published to help you get
on the path to homeownership. The information in this book
will help you understand the steps involved in selecting
and buying a home, and the many responsibilities that come
with homeownership. You can learn a great deal of vocabulary
related to buying a home, as well as the way the American
homeownership system works.
This student book
was developed by the Fannie Mae Foundation in collaboration
with the Center For Applied Linguistics, an educational
institution in Washington, DC, with more than 35 years of
experience preparing curricula and instructional materials
for English as a second language learners.
You may not be familiar
with the Fannie Mae Foundation. We were formed and funded
by Fannie Mae, which is a private company chartered by Congress
to provide funds to local lenders for home mortgages in
communities all across America.
The Fannie Mae Foundation
is a nonprofit organization. Among other activities, the
Foundation provides information useful to those who want
to buy a home in America. This guide is part of the Foundations
New Americans Initiative, which offers a number of home
