Comparing two things or two
groups of things
The comparative degree of one-syllable
adjectives is formed by adding er.
One-syllable comparative = adjective
+ er
Example: (small–smaller)
Town houses are smaller than Victorian houses.
The comparative degree of adjectives
with more than two syllables is formed by using more.
More than two syllables = more
+ adjective
Example: (expensive–more expensive)
Large houses are more expensive than small
houses.
The comparative form of all adjectives
is followed by than plus the second item being
compared.

Use the comparative degree of adjectives
to write sentences about the differences between old homes
and new homes.
