Tatiana Klimova came to the USA with her husband in March, 1997. Her husband is working here and she is trying to study English to be more helpful in this society. That is why she was so glad to find the information about Menlo Park Literacy Program and to take part in this.

Jesus Rodriguez has lived in this country for 24 years. He has learned that education is very important.

M.E.M. was born in Guatemala City. She is married and has a ten-year-old son, who inspired her to come to the library to Project Read.

Maria is a full time employee at a Law office and hopes to get a certificate in administration in the near future.

Ross Macintosh was born in 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to California in 1963. He attended Presidio Jr. High School in San Francisco, Carlmont High School in Belmont, and Cañada College in Redwood City. (He attended CSM for motorcycle riding classes.) He works at Information Access Company as a microfilm technician.

Nonna comes from Russia. She has been living here for three years. She never studied English before she came here. She's studying hard now. She hopes to become a citizen and to live in the USA for the rest of her life.

Vicky Guízar was born on a ranch in Mexico. The nearest town (Coalcoman, Michoacan) was 15 miles away. She was the third child of 11, including seven girls and four boys. She was one of three who attended school. Three of the girls are in the USA. She came here in 1976.

Suzy Klent likes to read science fiction and play soccer. She drew some pictures for the book.

Bertley Kelly was born in Jamaica. He came to the USA in 1981. He plans to become a USA citizen soon.

Elena Dehtyar was born in Ivano Frankovsk, Ukraine where she spent her childhood After entering the Department of Applied Mathematics of Kiev State University in 1987 she moved to Kiev. Since 1996 she has lived with her husband and two children, Irina (9) and Alexander (7), in the USA.

Amanda Rogers is 10. She rides her bike, plays computer games, plays with her friends and reads.

Jennifer Rogers is 9. She likes to color, draw pictures, play and read.

Pili Chazaro is from Puebla Pue, Mexico. She has been in the United States for exactly one year. She has four daughters, Marian (22), Tani (19), Nicole (8), Marielle (7), and two granddaughters. She is a pre-school teacher. With her in the USA are her husband Alex, and her three youngest daughters.

Chanel Miller is a 5-year-old kindergarten student at Hoover School in Palo Alto. Her mother is a learner in Menlo Park Project Read.

E.W. graduated from Summer Hill High School in Clinton, Mississippi, in 1971. In 1972 she joined the Job Corps in Poland, Maine, for one year to become a Nurse Assistant. She went back to Mississippi and worked as a Nurse Assistant at the University Medical Center for three years. She moved to East Palo Alto, California, and got a job at the Veterans Hospital in Menlo Park.

May May Miller was born in 1962 in China. She started writing stories in Chinese in 1981. She has published a book and many short stories in Chinese. She is now living in Palo Alto, California, with her husband and two daughters.

Haley Fowler, Marquis, Toyita Martinez, Fabian Prado, and Elizabeth Vargas are students at the Belle Haven Child Development Center. Haley drew a picture of her sister and her best friend, Rose.
