API Academic Performance Index

EL English Learner
Learners with a primary language other than English who are limited-English proficient. The term "EL" was created after the passage of Prop 227 that requires new English learners to be instructed in English.

ELLI English Language & Literacy Intensive
California State Library literacy initiative established in response to California Governor Gray Davis’ focus on education and the need to improve the literacy skills of families where English is not the first language. ELLP English Language and Intensive Literacy Program

STAR Standardized Testing and Reporting Program

SAT 9 Stanford Achievement Test also known as the Stanford 9.
This is the actual test students in grades two — eleven take statewide by May 15 of every year. This test was selected by the California Department of Education from the STAR program. The test is multiple choice and covers reading, language, and mathematics. See www.greatschools.net
