"Trashed" Books May Help Fight Illiteracy, AIDS in Uganda

I. Ronald Musoke is from Uganda.

A. Twelve members of his family died of AIDS.
B. He survived a civil war in Uganda.
C. Musoke came to California to study.
D. He is a student at the College of Marin.

II. Musoke makes a discovery.

A. He finds old textbooks in wastebaskets.
B. Some of the books sold for one hundred dollars.
C. The books aren’t valuable to the bookstore.
D. He takes the discarded books out of the trash.

III. A plan develops for the textbooks.

A. Uganda schools have few books.
B. Musoke wants to send the used books to Uganda.
C. He will use the books to help educate women.
D. The books will be used to fight AIDS and illiteracy.

IV. Classmates and a sponsor offer help.

A. Students start giving Musoke books.
B. Classmates help sort and pack books.
C. A corporate sponsor offers help with shipping costs.
D. Over four thousand books are collected.
