A Day in the Life of a Protester

I. Carmen Nogales is an actress from Los Angeles.
A. She came to Seattle
to protest the WTO.
B. Nogales says WTO policies harm her friends.
C. Her intention was not to get arrested.
D. After one day, she was already a veteran.
II. Many protestors were
taken to jail.
A. Protestors sat down
and refused to move.
B. They were sitting in a "no-protest" area.
C. Police arrested many of the protesters.
D. Nogales was upset to see her friends arrested.
III. Jerry Madsen leads the
Citizens Trade Campaign.
A. Madsens group
worked for five months planning protests.
B. His group helped organize sixty demonstrations.
C. A "teach in" was part of the training.
D. Then people were put on the street every day.
IV. The protest had both
good and bad results.
A. Police "beefed
up" their forces after a defeat.
B. Vandalism by a few hurt the protesters cause.
C. Sheet metal workers helped clean up the streets.
D. Protesters had different approaches.
