Interviewing Practice
In addition to reading and writing skills, a positive face-to-face or phone interview is typically essential to securing a job. Tutors can help learners prepare for employment or other interviews, thereby helping learners to build confidence and be prepared to answer likely questions.
Three activity ideas:
- Research the potential employer and the field using online searches, local newspapers, and the web site of the company or organization.
- California’s Employment Development Department offers a variety of resources targeted to help individuals “Get Ready for the Job.” Visit the web link to view potential interview questions, interview tips, resume advice, and more.

- Practice. Role play as interviewer and interviewee. Ask common questions. Discuss together what employers are interested in learning through the questions and how to respond with confidence.
