It’s summer and time for travel and vacation – even if you can’t leave town! Take advantage of this time for exploration or adventure by introducing your learner to travel writing (the librarian can help you both find the section), reading maps, understanding travel guidebooks and more!
One activity idea would be to study together how a guide book or travel article puts together a suggested walking tour of a city. Then ask your learner how he or she would introduce a visitor to his or her hometown (either where now living or where grew up). Draw a simple map, and try to write out the route. If the tour is for your town, share it with another learner and tutor pair, and try the route out together. Try to see the streets and sites as if for the first time!
