Poetry Month is celebrated every April, and offers an opportunity to explore this writing form that has continued for (and changed over) centuries because the short lines, rhythms and way of storytelling continue to resonate with us.
The Academy of American Poets has a treasure trove of poems available online. You can select by poem or by poet and enjoy a wide variety of styles and topics. Some are even available in audio form in the “Listening Room.”
Scholastic has a collection of poetry activities on its website. While listed for children, adults might find some of them a fun introduction to poetry and make the writing form less intimidating.
