Tutor Tip of the Month: Newspaper Scavenger Hunt

(Courtesy of South San Francisco Project Read)

Want to add a new activity to your tutoring sessions? How about having a newspaper scavenger hunt. Any paper will do, and you can look for things like:

  • today's date
  • a current event that is important to the learner
  • the weather
  • a person the learner would like to meet
  • a place the learner would like to visit
  • a game the learner would like to watch or play
  • a movie the learner would like to see
  • a job the learner would like to have
  • a new word the learner would like to know

Many learners have the goal of reading the newspaper. Here's a fun way to work on that skill.
