The Ventura County Library Reading Program suggests using songs to practice dictation and learning the word families. The song "Every Breath You Take" (recorded by The Police and Sting), for example, lets students practice the -ake, -ay and -ace families. You can pause the cassette after each phrase and let the student write what they hear. Find out what kind of music your student likes (in English) and have some musical fun!
